Some people think of plantain as a weed, or at best, as a pasture crop.... but we see it as a powerful healer.
In herbalism, plantain (also known as ribwort) is known as a 'drawing herb' and a superb wound healer. It is also regarded as having a special affinity with the mucous membranes. The German Commission E* has approved the internal use of plantain for catarrh of the respiratory tract and inflammation of oro-pharyngeal mucosa.
Plantain can be used as a mouth rinse and gargle and we have customers who've found it very helpful when they have mouth ulcers.
To use it as a mouth rinse we put a heaped teaspoon of plantain in a glass jar and fill with almost boiling water and then put the lid on nice and tight. Let it brew for a minimum of 5 minutes - even better leave it to brew until it has cooled. Then strain and use as a rinse.
