It was the end of the day at Archeus HQ and look who popped in to visit. This is a Kaka, which is a native New Zealand parrot. Here in Wellington there has been a resurgence of these beautiful birds thanks to conservation efforts in this city. I put sugar water in the bowl you can see, for Tuis (another native NZ bird) and the Kaka seem to be catching on!
This is the first time I have got so close to one. I could have touched him. I just happened to have my camera with me to take a photo of a cruise ship in the harbour. But hey, it had stiff photogenic competition! Here's a close up of Kaka feathers for you.
